13-year-old student dies from electrocution while retrieving slipper from school shed near power lines
A 13-year-old student died from electrocution at a school in Kollam district, Kerala, while attempting to retrieve a slipper from a cycle shed roof. The incident occurred when the student climbed onto tin sheets near a low-hanging electric wire. The shed, constructed approximately 15 years ago, was built dangerously close to overhead power lines. Opposition parties staged protests alleging negligence by school management and the Kerala State Electricity Board. The State Human Rights Commission registered a case and ordered an investigation within 14 days. The General Education Minister directed an inquiry, while the Power Minister sought reports from electricity board officials. School management claimed they had applied to remove the electric lines, but the electricity board denied receiving such application. The student's mother, working in Kuwait, has not been informed, and the body will be cremated upon her arrival.
