Lieutenant Governor orders probe into coaching scheme corruption with Rs 145 crore bills cleared against Rs 15 crore budget
The Lieutenant Governor has ordered a probe into alleged corruption in a coaching scheme for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and minority students launched by the previous government. The scheme provided free coaching at private institutes for competitive exams. Officials allege that while the official budget was Rs 15 crore, bills worth over Rs 145 crore were cleared during 2020-21. The current government claims that coaching institutes submitted bills with minimal documentation and no proper verification of beneficiaries. Despite receiving a list of 13,000 students from institutes, verified records showed only about 3,000 students actually received coaching. The scheme was discontinued when the new government took power in February. The previous ruling party has termed the probe 'vendetta politics' and accused the current government of shutting down functioning public services while failing to address civic issues.
