<h1>Indian Insurance Industry Holds Rs. 3096.72 Crore in Unclaimed Funds, IRDA Warns Against Appropriation.</h1> The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) reported that as of March 31, 2012, the insurance industry held Rs. 3096.72 crore in unclaimed funds. Of this total, Rs. 2476.19 crore is from the life insurance sector and Rs. 620.53 crore from the non-life sector. IRDA advised insurers in a November 2010 circular that these unclaimed amounts should not be appropriated or written back under any circumstances. This information was shared by the Minister of State for Finance in the Lok Sabha.
