Engineering Exports Drop Amid Global Recession; Government Expands Schemes to Boost Competitiveness and Target Key Markets.
The country's engineering exports experienced a decline from April 2012 to January 2013 due to the global recession affecting demand. Key regions such as ASEAN+2, the EU, Rest of Europe, North America, North East Asia, and South Asia saw export reductions ranging from 3.41% to 29.16%. To counter this, the government introduced measures to boost competitiveness, including expanding the Interest Subvention Scheme, Focus Market Scheme, and introducing new export schemes targeting specific markets. These initiatives aim to enhance the engineering sector's export performance. This information was disclosed by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
