Wholesale price inflation drops to negative 0.13 percent in June after 19 months of positive growth
Wholesale price inflation turned negative at 0.13 percent in June after 19 months, down from 0.39 percent in May and 3.43 percent in June last year. The decline was driven by deflation in food articles (3.75 percent), particularly vegetables (22.65 percent), fuel and power (2.65 percent), and softening manufactured product costs. Industry experts expect WPI to remain in deflationary territory in July despite geopolitical uncertainties, citing normal monsoon expectations and easing crude oil prices. The Reserve Bank recently cut policy rates by 0.50 percent to 5.50 percent amid easing inflation pressures.
