Punjab launches universal health scheme offering cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for all families
Punjab Cabinet approved a universal health scheme providing cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for all families in the state. The scheme, launching October 2, will benefit three crore residents through government and over 550 empanelled private hospitals, with plans to expand to 1,000 facilities. Previously limited to Rs 5 lakh and income-based criteria, the enhanced coverage now includes all citizens regardless of income level, including government employees and pensioners. Health cards will be issued through service centers or online registration using identification documents. The state allocated Rs 778 crore for this initiative, claiming to be the first state offering such comprehensive free healthcare coverage.
