Trade unions stage nationwide strike over labor codes and privatization while Delhi markets stay open
Trade unions called a nationwide strike to protest labor codes, privatization, and demand worker rights including pension reforms and minimum wage increases. Despite the bandh, Delhi markets remained fully operational with all 700 markets and 56 industrial areas functioning normally. Major commercial areas like Connaught Place and Khan Market reported regular business activity. Ten central trade unions participated in the protest, seeking withdrawal of fixed-term employment contracts, scrapping of military recruitment schemes, and opposing privatization of public sector units. The unions had previously submitted a 17-point charter to authorities and conducted similar strikes in recent years.
