Rupee gains 6 paise to 85.44 against dollar on weak greenback and falling crude prices
The rupee strengthened 6 paise to 85.44 against the US dollar in early trading, supported by dollar weakness and declining crude oil prices. The US dollar index fell to 97 levels while Brent crude dropped to $67 per barrel due to expected OPEC+ supply increases and Middle East ceasefire developments. However, trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainties may trigger risk-off sentiment. Domestic equity markets declined with foreign investors purchasing equities worth Rs 1,397 crore. India's forex reserves decreased by $1.01 billion to $697.93 billion during the week ended June 20.
