India's WPI Inflation Hits Three-Year Low at 6.62% in Jan 2013; Food Prices Still High.
WPI inflation in India declined to a three-year low of 6.62% in January 2013, driven by moderation in the non-food manufacturing sector. The inflation rate decelerated from 9.56% in 2010-11 and 8.94% in 2011-12 to 7.55% in the first nine months of 2012-13. Despite this, food inflation remained high, particularly in cereals, while prices for animal products and international fertilizer prices also contributed to inflation. Core inflation for non-food manufactured products showed moderation, aided by monetary measures and decreasing prices of metals, chemicals, and textiles. However, inflation in oilseeds and fuel commodities remained high.
