Government approves Rs 5,940-crore master plan for coalfield fire control and family rehabilitation with livelihood support
The government approved a revised Rs 5,940-crore master plan to address coalfield fires and land subsidence in a coalfield area and rehabilitate affected families. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs endorsed the phase-wise approach prioritizing the most vulnerable sites. The plan includes livelihood grants of Rs 1 lakh per family, credit support up to Rs 3 lakh, skill development programs, and comprehensive infrastructure development at resettlement sites. A dedicated rehabilitation fund will be established for livelihood activities. The original plan from 2009 expired in 2021, necessitating this revision to address ongoing fire and subsidence issues dating back to 1916.
