<h1>Land acquisition nearly complete for 2,800 km freight corridors; major contract awarded for Kanpur-Khurja section.</h1> Land acquisition for approximately 2,800 km of the eastern and western dedicated freight corridors is nearing completion. The first major civil construction contract has been awarded for the 343 km Kanpur-Khurja section of the eastern corridor. By the end of the 2013-14 fiscal year, contracts for up to 1,500 km across both corridors are expected to be awarded, with construction commencing. Preliminary Engineering-cum-Traffic Studies are underway for four additional future freight corridors.
