<h1>Health Ministry wins Bloomberg Award for tobacco control efforts through 675 cessation centers and multilingual quitline services</h1> The Health Ministry received the Bloomberg Philanthropies Award for Global Tobacco Control in the 'O' category, recognizing efforts to help people quit tobacco use under WHO's MPOWER strategy. The award was presented at the World Conference on Tobacco Control in Dublin, Ireland. The ministry's National Tobacco Control Programme has established over 675 tobacco cessation centers across district hospitals, delivering 1.35 million counseling sessions in 2023-24. The National Tobacco Quitline Services, launched in 2016, supports 16 languages with around 100 counselors handling 42,000 monthly calls. The government has also banned e-cigarettes and mandated anti-tobacco warnings on streaming platforms.
