<h1>Net Direct Tax Collections Surge by 71% in First Two Months of Fiscal Year, Driven by Compliance and Efficiency.</h1> Net direct tax collections for the first two months of the fiscal year reached Rs.22,840 crore, marking a 71.28% increase from Rs.13,335 crore. Corporate tax collections rose by 68.05%, while personal income tax, including FBT, STT, and BCTT, grew by 73.05%. Tax deducted at source maintained a growth rate of 51%. Despite increased refund payouts of Rs.9,014 crore, the Income Tax department aims to enhance taxpayer services by relaxing refund issuance criteria. Improved tax compliance and administration have contributed to this growth, with collection costs dropping to a historic low of 0.54% in 2007-08.
