Women Farmers Turn Cotton Stubble into Climate Solution, Sequestering Carbon and Creating Economic Opportunities for Rural Communities
A climate-tech startup in Gujarat is transforming agricultural practices by converting cotton stubble into carbon-sequestering biochar. Through a pilot program, the initiative trained 500 women farmers, produced over 21 tonnes of biochar, and effectively sequestered 40 tonnes of CO2. The project aims to address soil degradation, reduce stubble burning, and provide women farmers with additional income opportunities, with plans to scale to 1,000 women farmers by 2025.
