        Hon’ble Union Minister of Shipping ThiruG.K.Vasan has presentedtoday a cheque of Rs.5 lakhs to SelviPrema, daughter of Jayakumar, a Mumbai based Auto Driver from VillupuramDistrict,Tamil Nadu, who has topped in the recently held All India Chartered Accountancy Exam in the presence of Shri. M.A.Bhaskarachar, CMD, EPL. On the advice and directions of the Hon’ble Minister, Ennore Port Limited, a Mini RatnaGovernment of India Undertaking under the Ministry of Shipping has come forward to honour her by presenting a cash award of Rs.5 lakhs to SelviPrema under the Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

        Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vasan said the UPA Government, under the able guidance of Shrimati Sonia Gandhi and dynamic leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, is firmly commited to the uplift of the aamaadmi. He said, India is one of the fastest growing economies. While the economic progress has led to prosperity of certain sections of our population, a vast majority of the common men and women had been left untouched by this progress.

        As a responsible Corporate Body, Ennore Port has integrated itself well with its neighborhood development and since its inception, EPL has undertaken many social activities and one of the prime areas mainly concentrated by EPL is in the field of education. EPL has undertaken various programs for development of education and infrastructure facilities like providing road, construction of school buildings, providing furniture & toilet facilities to Kattupalli & Athipattu villages. During the year 2011-12, EPL has spent about Rs.1 crore under the Corporate Social Responsibility.

        For the current financial year i.e. 2012-13, Ennore Port has planned to execute the following CSR projects at a total cost of Rs.2.72 crores:

        (i) School infrastructure to Athipattu High School

        (ii) Village Road to Athipattu Railway Station

        (iii) Approach Road to Nandiyambakkam Village

        (iv) SS Bus shelter at AthipattuPudu Nagar Railway Station

        (v) Upgradation of skills of wards of the fishermen

        (vi) Promotion of education through award program on knowledge competition for children, youth & women.

        (vii) Sponsoring of community, health & educational services to UdavumKarangal, AnnalTilou Orphanage, AnnaiFathimaChild Welfare Centre & providing transport infrastructure to Sivananda Orphanage.

        EPL has also extended its financial support to Adyar Cancer Institutetowards augmentation of medical facilities to a tune of Rs.20 lakhs recently.

        For the forthcoming financial year 2013-14, EPL has planned to take up the following programmes in the villages in and around Ennore Port andChennai at the total estimated cost of Rs.3.95 crores.

        (i) Drinking water infrastructure.

        (ii) Educational infrastructure.

        (iii) Health & Family welfare

        (iv) Sanitation& Public health

        (v) Promotion of Sports & Games

        (vi) Imparting Vocational/Skill Training

        (vii) Building of Roads and Pathways.

        On this occasion, the Hon’ble Union Minister of Shipping congratulated Selvi. Prema for her great success and also her supportive parents.Shri.M.A.Bhaskarachar, CMD, Ennore Port and Shri.AtulyaMisra, Chairman, Chennai Port also congratulated the successful candidate on their own behalf and on behalf of Ennore Port and Chennai Port. Largeof employees from Ennore Port and Chennai Port, Board members, Chennai Port Trust school children were participated in the function.
