Under the New Coal Distribution Policy (NCDP) of 2007, the State Governments have to ensure that the legitimate coal requirements of small and medium consumers located in their States are properly analysed and suitable action is taken for meeting the requirements, to the extent feasible. The state nominated agencies, through whom coal is supplied to small and medium scale industries having the requirement of less than 4200 tonnes per annum, have not reported any specific complaint about closure of small and medium scale industry due to non-availability of coal.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Coal, Shri Pratik Prakashbapu Patil in a written reply in Rajya sabha today.

Coal distribution obligations require states to assess and act to meet small and medium industry fuel needs. Under the New Coal Distribution Policy (NCDP) of 2007, state governments must analyse and ensure fulfilment of legitimate coal requirements of small and medium scale consumers and take suitable action to meet those requirements. Supply to such industries is effected through state nominated agencies, which have not reported closures due to coal non availability.
