The sanctioned and the working strength of the officers/staff in the Income Tax Department/Directorates as on 31.3.2012 are given as under:-

The Investigation Directorates, Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Directorate and Central Charges of the Income-Tax Department are facing acute workforce shortage which is hampering their effective functioning.
A proposal for cadre restructuring of the Income Tax Department is under process separately.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri S.S. Palanimanickam in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
