Initially, Rs. 4.81 crore was sanctioned in September 2009, with Rs. 3.85 crore released earlier. This funding supports the creation of sports infrastructure across India, aiming to cover 2.50 lakh village panchayats and 6,400 block panchayats over ten years. The scheme also funds annual rural sports competitions and events like the National Women Championships and North East Games.
