<h1>Government Cracks Down on Bank Loan Defaulters and Fugitives; Seizes Assets Worth Rs 44,204 Crore</h1> Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the government is taking decisive action against bank loan defaulters and fugitives, assuring the Rajya Sabha of stringent recovery efforts. She clarified that loan write-offs are not waivers, as banks continue recovery actions. Over the past five years, the Directorate of Enforcement has addressed 912 bank fraud cases, seizing assets worth Rs 44,204 crore. Nine individuals have been declared Fugitive Economic Offenders, with assets worth Rs 749.83 crore confiscated. The government has also focused on financial inclusion, opening over 55 crore Jan Dhan accounts and creating 3.94 lakh jobs in Public Sector Banks. The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha.
