The Union Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambram is leaving tonight on an official tour to Tokyo, Japan to attend Annual Meetings of World Bank and IMF. He will also attend BRICS Finance Ministers’ and G 24 Ministerial Meeting also during his aforesaid visit. The Finance Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with Finance Ministers of Bangladesh, Canada, Iran, Australia, Bhutan, Senior Minister of International Monetary Cooperation, Sri Lanka, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico, British Chancellor of the Exchequer and UK Secretary of State for Financial Development among others on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of IMF and World Bank. He will also hold meetings with President, World Bank, President, JICA and 2nd Informal East Asia Finance Ministers’ Meeting during his aforesaid visit.
This will be the first visit abroad of the Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambram after taking over as the Finance Minister on 1st August, 2012. The Finance Minister will leave for Bangkok on 14th October, 2012 after completing his Tokyo visit.

The Finance Minister undertakes an official international financial engagement in Tokyo to participate in the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and related multilateral fora, including BRICS and G-24 meetings, while conducting bilateral finance-level meetings with multiple countries and institutions; this is the minister's first foreign visit after taking office and will be followed by onward travel to Bangkok.
