LIC Social Security Scheme
The Central Government is implementing two social security insurance schemes, namely Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) and Janashree Bima Yojana (JBY) for the welfare of rural and urban poor persons falling below poverty line or marginally above poverty line. These two schemes are administered by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
The JBY covers rural and urban poor of the country under identified occupational/vocational groups. Total lives covered under JBY as on 31.03.2012 are 2,20,56,435. The details of the premium collected and claims settled under JBY during the last htee years, State-wise are as under:

LIC and the States are encouraged to extend wider coverage of schemes to the rural and urban poor.
