It has been decided by the Government of India and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to introduce Rs. 10 notes in polymer/plastic on a field trial basis.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed that field trial is proposed to be conducted at five places viz. Jaipur, Shimla, Bhubaneshwar, Mysore and Cochin, keeping in view the varied geographical locations and climatic conditions. The expenditure proposed to be incurred on the field trial would be finalized in accordance with extant guidelines.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.

Field trial of polymer notes announced; pilot issuance in diverse locations to assess operational viability under guidelines. A controlled field trial of polymer notes for the ten-unit denomination will be conducted in five geographically and climatically diverse locations to assess operational suitability; the Reserve Bank will conduct the pilot and related expenditure will be finalized in accordance with existing expenditure guidelines, as announced by the Minister of State for Finance.
