Jammu and Kashmir targets energy self-reliance by 2035 with new hydroelectric projects and power agreements.
Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the central government, has developed a Resource Adequacy plan aiming for energy self-reliance by 2035. The plan focuses on increasing generation capacity through local development and external power procurement. The region has signed Power Purchase Agreements for 393 MW of thermal power and is prioritizing hydroelectric projects through joint ventures with NHPC. Projects like Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, and Ratle are expected to add 3063 MW by 2027-28. Additional projects are planned to boost capacity further. Renewable energy and external power sources are also being considered to ensure a balanced energy mix.
