Anand Sharma to Assess Industrial Scenario with the Industry

Calls Meeting of Government–Industry Task Force

The Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Shri Anand Sharma will hold stakeholder consultations next week in the light of recent IIP figures and the evolving industrial situation. The Minister is regularly reviewing the situation with the senior officials and has expressed concern over the drop in industrial performance in recent months.

Shri Sharma will first meet the industry chambers like FICCI and CII along with FIEO. He has also called a meeting of the Government-Industry Task force to review the situation and suggest remedial measures. The Task Force is the established mechanism of obtaining inputs from the captains of the industry in the policy making process. Yesterday the Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister met the Finance Minister Shri P Chidambaram and discussed the important issues faced by the economy.

The Union Minister will review recent declines in industrial output, hold consultations with major industry chambers and export bodies, and convene the Government-Industry Task Force to evaluate the industrial situation and propose remedial measures, following interministerial discussions.
