India Seeks State Support for FDI in Multi-Brand Retail; Delhi and Manipur Onboard.
The Government of India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has reached out to state governments regarding foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail trade. Support for this initiative has been received from the governments of Delhi, Manipur, and the Union Territory of Daman Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Currently, FDI up to 100% is allowed in single-brand retail with government approval, but not in multi-brand retail. Data on single-brand retail operations at the state level is not maintained centrally. This information was shared by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in a Rajya Sabha session.
