<h1>Indian Government Subsidies Quadrupled from 2006 to 2012, Reaching Rs. 2.16 Lakh Crore in 2011-12.</h1> The total subsidy payable by the Indian government for the fiscal year 2011-12 was estimated at Rs. 2,16,297 crore, significantly higher than the Rs. 57,125 crore incurred in 2006-2007. This increase represents approximately 3.79 times the expenditure from 2006-2007. The breakdown of subsidies for 2011-12 includes Rs. 72,823 crore for food, Rs. 67,199 crore for fertilizer, Rs. 68,481 crore for petroleum, and Rs. 7,794 crore for other subsidies. This information was provided by a government official in response to a parliamentary inquiry.
