The pendency is distributed across Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. The patent application process is lengthy due to increased filings and a shortage of examiners. The government has selected 248 new examiners, with 135 having joined by April 30, 2012. Electronic processing modules are being used to expedite examinations. A compulsory license decision involving an anti-cancer drug is under appeal, with no pending applications for compulsory licenses.
