<h1>BMC Allocates Rs 1,000 Crore to BEST for Infrastructure, Equipment, and Electric Bus Expansion in 2025-26 Budget</h1> The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allocated Rs 1,000 crore to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking in its 2025-26 budget, acknowledging its financial difficulties. BEST, the city's second-largest public transport system, will use the funds for infrastructure, equipment, loan repayments, and operations. Additionally, BMC will contribute Rs 128.65 crore towards 2,000 electric buses, though it's unclear if this is part of the Rs 1,000 crore. Since 2012-13, BMC has provided Rs 11,304.59 crore to BEST, which has accumulated losses of around Rs 9,500 crore. An extra Rs 250 crore will be allocated for electric bus purchases.
