Anti Dumping Duty on Illegal Import of Silk from China

Import of raw silk is free as per ITC (HS) Classification for Export and Import Items. Due to dumping of raw silk from China, Anti-Dumping Duty has been imposed on some grades of Mulberry raw silk for 5 years from 6.1.2009 onwards.

This information was given by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia , Minister of State for Commerce & Industry in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

Anti-dumping duty on imported raw silk targets dumped Chinese imports, imposing duties to protect domestic silk producers. Imposition of Anti-dumping duty on specified grades of imported Mulberry raw silk addresses proven dumping from China by subjecting those imports to targeted protective duties, counteracting price distortion and protecting domestic producers for the affected grades.
