There has been a gradual increase in the productivity of Cardamom, Coffee and Rubber. However, there has been a slight decline in the productivity of tea, because of the senile plantations and a slight decline in the productivity of tobacco due to adverse weather conditions and cyclonic rains.

The Government through the respective Commodity Boards is implementing various programmes/schemes in the respective commodity growing areas of the country including in Kerala and West Bengal for improvement in the production, productivity and quality as well as for promotion of exports and value addition by providing financial and technical assistance through Plan Schemes to growers and other stakeholders for new planting, replanting, rejuvenation, quality up-gradation and market promotion.

Commodity production support: government commodity boards provide financial and technical assistance to boost production, quality and exports. Compiled state wise statistics for cardamom, tea, coffee, rubber and FCV tobacco show production, export, import and consumption trends with provisional estimates; productivity has risen for cardamom, coffee and rubber but declined for tea and tobacco. The Government, through Commodity Boards, administers Plan schemes offering financial and technical assistance for new planting, replanting, rejuvenation, quality upgradation, value addition and market promotion to enhance production, quality and exports.
