This follows approvals from the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court for privatizing Chandigarh's electricity distribution. The acquisition involved a payment of Rs 871 crore, surpassing the reserve price of Rs 174 crore. The transition includes transferring assets, liabilities, and personnel to Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL), with guarantees for employee service terms. CPDL plans to modernize infrastructure, improve service quality, and increase green energy use, while consumer tariffs will remain regulated by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission.
