Covering 55 crore individuals, it offers up to Rs 5 lakh annually for hospitalisation to the bottom 40% of the population. The scheme expanded in 2024 to include senior citizens aged 70 and above, benefiting six crore individuals. Government health expenditure increased from 29% to 48% between 2015 and 2022, reducing out-of-pocket costs from 62.6% to 39.4%. Other initiatives like the Universal Immunisation Programme and Jan Aushadhi scheme have also improved healthcare access.
