India's Cotton Exports Rise by Over 11 Lakh Bales from 2009 to 2012; Some Agricultural Exports Face Restrictions.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, provided data on cotton and agricultural product exports for the years 2009-2012. Cotton exports increased from 83 lakh bales in 2009-10 to 94.75 lakh bales in 2011-12. Other agricultural exports included basmati and non-basmati rice, sugar, onion, pulses, and wheat, with varying quantities and values over the years. Most agricultural products are not prohibited for export, except for edible oil, pulses, milk, and milk products, which face restrictions to ensure domestic availability. This information was shared by the Union Minister in response to a Lok Sabha inquiry.
