India's Coal Imports Up 2% April-Nov, But November Sees Drop Due to Sufficient Domestic Supply.
India's coal imports increased by 2% to 182.02 million tonnes (MT) from April to November in the current fiscal year, compared to 178.17 MT in the same period last year. Despite the annual rise, November imports decreased to 19.57 MT from 22.30 MT the previous year, due to sufficient domestic supply reducing demand from sectors like sponge iron and steel. Non-coking coal imports slightly decreased to 117.73 MT, and coking coal imports fell to 36.93 MT. The government encourages domestic production to reduce imports, with coal freely importable based on commercial needs.
