Goa's Saligao Waste Facility Turns Trash into Energy, Gas, and Manure; Supports Tourism & Aims for Zero Waste Vision.
A solid waste management facility in Saligao, Goa, managed by the Goa Waste Management Corporation, processes 250 tonnes of waste daily, benefiting the tourism sector. Established in 2016, it generates 1.02 megawatts of electricity and 7,000 cubic meters of cooking gas from waste. The facility also produces 20-30 tonnes of manure daily, which is distributed for local gardening and forestation projects. Approximately 28-30% of dry waste, including plastics and glass, is recycled. The plant operates year-round, handling increased waste during festive seasons, and aims for a 'zero waste' vision for Goa.
