Shri Goyal suggests promotion of divyangjan sports festivals for greater inclusion

Industry must devise ways to make skill development available in Braille and for those also who have other physical impairments. This was stated by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal during his address at the BML Munjal Awards 2024 in New Delhi. Evoking Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call for skilling the nation and enabling the physically impaired citizens, Shri Goyal urged the industry leaders present at the event to help divyangjans in skill development.

He also said that there is a need to develop certain skills that would help them become independent. Mentioning the instance of SEEPZ where 1500 visually impaired children are trained by Gem and Jewellery sector for jobs in the same industry, Shri Goyal suggested the participants to take enabling divyangjans as a mission by identifying their strengths and making them employable. Grievance centres and customer support centres are areas where divyangjans can work at, and even in sports. We can also promote divyangjan sports festivals to encourage them more, he noted.

Speaking about ‘The Making of Hero’, the book on the journey of the Hero Group from founding to its present, the Minister highlighted the company’s efforts to take India to the world stage in automobile manufacturing. He also praised the organisers for releasing the book in Braille. This effort will inspire divyangjans to dream big, he said. Further, he expressed hope that the book will inspire many entrepreneurs in becoming job creators. Collective commitment of 1.4 billion people will take India to greater heights and that will happen when they aspire big, he added.

He urged the organisers of the event to engage startups and younger organisations in the award ceremony in the journey towards a Viksit Bharat.

Disability inclusion: industry urged to provide accessible skill training and employment pathways for divyangjan empowerment. Industry is urged to provide accessible skill development and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities by adapting training into formats such as Braille, identifying sectoral roles aligned with their strengths, and promoting initiatives-including sports festivals and accessible publications-that enhance independence, employability, and broader social and professional inclusion.
