The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is holding a one-day “Review of milestone setting for SDGs National Indicators” on 16th August, 2024 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The proposed consultation would be attended by Officers from the concerned line Ministries/ Departments of Government of India, NITI Aayog and MoSPI. Shri Suman K. Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog will be the Chief Guest of the programme.
India became member of United National Statistical Commission (UNSC) from 1st January 2024. India is also a member of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) for the present term i.e. 2023-25. Considering the role of India as IAEG-SDGs member, it is expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing 2025 Comprehensive Review of the global SDG indicator framework. The views of India in these meetings are usually based on the inputs received from the concerned line ministries. It is, therefore, crucial to sensitize the different Ministries/Departments about the recent developments on the front of 2025 Comprehensive Review of the SDGs Global Indicator Framework.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has developed a National Indicator Framework for tracking the progress of SDGs at national level. Based on the updated SDGs-NIF, MoSPI released the ‘Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework Progress Report 2024’ on 29th June, 2024 along with two more SDG publications which are derived from the progress report.
Further, MoSPI undertook the work related to setting up of milestones for SDG indicators, in consultation with the line Ministries, which will help in monitoring the progress of the SDGs upto 2030. The work related to setting up of milestones for SDG indicators is also reviewed by the MoSPI and NITI Aayog from time to time.
In this context, the “Review of milestone setting for SDGs National Indicators” is being organized mainly to take stock of the status of milestone setting for the SDG National Indicators as per the latest SDGs-NIF as well to sensitize the different Ministries/Departments about the recent developments on the front of 2025 Comprehensive Review of the SDGs Global Indicator Framework.
