DRI Seizes 436 Baby Indian Tent Turtles in Illegal Transport Bust; Ongoing Efforts to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Continue.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Lucknow intercepted and seized 436 baby Indian Tent Turtles from an individual illegally transporting them interstate. The turtles, a protected species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, were being moved from Kanpur to West Bengal via Varanasi. The DRI apprehended the suspect and handed the case to the Forest Department for further investigation. This rescue is part of DRI's ongoing efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade, having saved 1,721 Gangetic Turtle babies in five separate incidents this financial year. Illegal trade and habitat degradation pose significant threats to these species.
