The provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to 10^th August, 2023 continue to register steady growth. Direct Tax collections up to 10^th August, 2023 show that gross collections are at Rs. 6.53 lakh crore which is 15.73% higher than the gross collections for the corresponding period of last year. Direct Tax collection, net of refunds, stands at Rs. 5.84 lakh crore which is 17.33% higher than the net collections for the corresponding period of last year. This collection is 32.03% of the total Budget Estimates of Direct Taxes for F.Y. 2023-24.

Refunds amounting to Rs. 0.69 lakh crore have been issued during 1^st April, 2023 to 10^th August, 2023, which are 3.73% higher than refunds issued during the same period in the preceding year.

Direct tax collections show steady growth and account for a substantial share of FY 2023-24 budget estimates. Direct Tax collections for FY 2023-24 up to 10 August 2023 are reported provisionally: gross collections are higher year on year, net collections after refunds similarly show an increase, the net collection is expressed as a proportion of the Budget Estimates for direct taxes, and refunds issued during the period are reported with their year on year change.
