The operation, named 'Gold on the Highway,' involved intercepting two oil tankers and a truck traveling from Mao, Manipur to Guwahati, Assam. The gold was concealed in the vehicles, and five individuals were arrested. In the fiscal year 2021-22, DRI seized 833 kg of gold valued at Rs 405 crore nationwide, with significant seizures in the North-Eastern states. Investigations are ongoing, and DRI remains committed to combating gold smuggling.
