Government initiatives such as the Crop Diversification Programme and Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati Programme have promoted sustainable practices and water conservation. The sector also saw a significant increase in edible oil production, with a 43% rise from 2015-16 to 2020-21. The government allocated over 1052 lakh tonnes of food grains under the National Food Security Act in 2021-22 and expanded micro-irrigation coverage to over 59 lakh hectares under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
