The number of new accounts opened under Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) from 01.04.2018 to 31.10.2021 is 1,42,73,910. This was stated by Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
The Minister stated details of States with the highest and lowest number of accounts under SSA as on 31.10.2021 as below:

The Minister stated that the reasons for varying number of accounts in different states could be the size of the population, ability and willingness of parents to save etc.
The Minister stated details of the distribution proportion of public and private banks in number of accounts since launch of the scheme till 31.10.2021 as below:

Note: While calculating distribution proportion, accounts opened under SSA in various Post Offices have not been considered.
Sukanya Samriddhi Account uptake: regional disparities and dominant public bank distribution revealed in enrolment data. SSA account openings from April 2018 to October 2021 totaled 1,42,73,910, with highest counts in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, and lowest counts in Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Mizoram and Sikkim. Reported regional variation is attributed to population size and parental ability or willingness to save. Banking channel data show 96.24% of recorded SSA accounts in public banks and 3.76% in private banks; Post Office accounts were excluded from the bank-distribution calculation.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
