APEDA Launches Program to Educate Farmers on Sustainable Basmati Cultivation, Boosting Global Demand and Income.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), through its Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF), has initiated an awareness program to educate Basmati rice farmers on cultivating high-quality rice. Collaborating with the Rice Exporters Association of Uttar Pradesh, the campaign encourages judicious chemical use and promotes registration on basmati.net. Over 125 farmers participated in the program, which aims to boost global demand and income by maintaining traditional cultivation practices. APEDA supports state governments in promoting Basmati rice and recommends certified seeds and scientific fertilizer use to enhance export quality. In 2020-21, India exported 4.63 million tons of Basmati rice.
