<h1>Board Approves 28 New SEZs: Major Projects in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra; Over 59,356 Jobs Created.</h1> The Board of Approval for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) convened on January 2, 2008, granting 24 formal and 4 in-principle approvals for new SEZs. Notable formal approvals include a steel SEZ in Tamil Nadu, an electronic hardware SEZ also in Tamil Nadu, and multi-product SEZs in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, two SEZs in Gujarat received formal approval conversions for engineering and pharmaceuticals. In-principle approvals were given to projects in Maharashtra. The SEZs have attracted investments exceeding Rs. 52,193 crores and provided direct employment to over 59,356 individuals, with additional employment from private and state SEZs.
