Sugar price-control measures combine raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits and export restrictions to curb retail price pressures.
Sugar price-control measures combine authorised raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits for dealers and bulk consumers, and an existing export prohibition to address elevated domestic prices. Imports are permitted within the specified period, while stockholding restrictions seek to curb speculation and hoarding. Retail prices continued to rise despite lower ex-mill prices, and the regulatory approach focuses on augmenting supply, limiting stock accumulation, and preventing export-related pressure on domestic availability.

Input tax credit mismatch alone cannot support fraud-based GST demand without an assessing officer's recorded satisfaction of fraud or suppression.
Section 74 GST demand proceedings require the assessing officer's independent satisfaction of fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts. An input tax credit mismatch or alleged short payment alone cannot establish these conditions. Unsupported assertions of suppression for invoking extended limitation are insufficient, and audit objections cannot replace the assessing officer's satisfaction. A show cause-cum-demand notice lacking factual allegations of a deliberate device to evade tax or avail excess input tax credit is vulnerable.

Foreign investment liberalisation proposals receive industry support, subject to preserving AIF treatment, grandfathering, and prospective application.
Proposed foreign-investment liberalisation, including treatment of stakes below 10 per cent and a greater role for market forces in valuation, is welcomed. Preservation of the existing treatment of Alternative Investment Funds under the IOCC framework is emphasised, together with grandfathering of transactions and funds undertaken under the current regulatory position. Newly introduced requirements should operate prospectively to support a simpler, predictable and investment-friendly foreign-investment framework.

CARD91's Credit Lifecycle Consistency Framework calls for facility-specific treatment of Credit Line on UPI transactions and continuing credit events. Non-revolving credit lines require term-loan structures supporting multiple drawdowns without replenishing sanctioned limits for NBFC lending products.
Proposed restrictions on revolving credit facilities for most NBFCs would generally require credit products to operate as term loans, rather than facilities in which principal repayment automatically restores the available borrowing limit. Compliance may require technology capable of managing multiple drawdowns within an approved sanction, separate repayment schedules, amortisation and servicing workflows, while preventing repaid principal from replenishing the sanctioned limit.

Reciprocal trade tariffs intensify as negotiations confront market access, cultural protections, industrial safeguards, and sovereignty concerns.
US-Canada tariff escalation involves reciprocal import duties following failed negotiations over market access and trade in dairy, alcoholic beverages, automobiles, steel, aluminium and softwood lumber. United States tariff action relies on a rarely used trade-law power permitting duties against countries considered to discriminate against American businesses, without a prior investigation or stated time limit. Negotiations also raised concerns about protection of major industries, cultural protections and Canada's freedom to conclude trade agreements with other countries.

Customs classification of unassembled vehicle imports requires fresh hearing after reserved tax challenge was released without verdict.
The dispute concerns customs classification of imported unassembled vehicle parts. Customs authorities allege that parts imported in separate shipments should have been declared as completely knocked down (CKD) units, attracting the higher duty applicable to CKD imports, rather than as individual components subject to lower duty. The manufacturer contests the resulting customs demand. Proceedings have been released for fresh hearing before the regular indirect-tax writ bench, with status quo maintained for four weeks.

Retaliatory tariffs on imported goods escalate trade measures, targeting key sectors while maintaining support for affected domestic businesses.
Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on United States-origin industrial and consumer goods following increased United States tariffs on Canadian goods. Existing countertariffs on automobiles remain in force. Foreign-exchange market intervention and lower crude prices supported rupee appreciation, while USD/INR remained range-bound amid shifting dollar conditions.
Foreign-exchange market conditions supported rupee appreciation against the US dollar, driven by stronger domestic equity markets, a weaker US dollar and lower crude oil prices. The USD/INR pair remained broadly range-bound, with oil-price movements and Reserve Bank intervention identified as key near-term influences. The special USD-INR foreign-exchange swap facility for FCNR(B) deposits, overseas foreign-currency borrowings and external commercial borrowings mobilised substantial foreign-exchange inflows.

Section 301 tariffs may have lower impact where major exports remain outside their scope amid resilient domestic demand.
Economic resilience is attributed to buoyant domestic demand, increased manufacturing and services activity, improving liquidity conditions, credit growth, investment activity and rebounding foreign capital inflows. Recovery in the southwest monsoon improved kharif sowing and reservoir storage, partly mitigating agricultural-sector risks. US Section 301 tariffs are expected to have a comparatively lower effect because major Indian exports to the United States, including smartphones, petroleum products and pharmaceuticals, remain outside their scope. Foreign direct investment improved with higher gross inflows, while outward foreign direct investment continued to decline.

Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurates e-SANTA, an electronic marketplace providing a platform to connect aqua farmers and the buyers.

Shri Goyal said it will raise income, lifestyle, self-reliance, quality levels, traceability and provide new options for our aqua farmers

Our Government is committed towards the welfare of farmers: Shri Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal today virtually inaugurated e-SANTA, an electronic marketplace providing a platform to connect aqua farmers and the buyers. It will enable the farmers to get a better price and the exporters to directly purchase quality products from the farmers enhancing traceability, a key factor in international trade. The term e-SANTA was coined for the web portal, meaning Electronic Solution for Augmenting NaCSA farmers' Trade in Aquaculture. National Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture (NaCSA) is an extension arm of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Govt. of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal said that e-SANTA will raise income, lifestyle, self-reliance, quality levels, traceability, and provide new options for our aqua farmers. He said that the platform will change the traditional way of carrying out business from a word of mouth basis to become more formalised & legally binding. He said that e-SANTA will RAISE the lives & income of farmers by:

  • Reducing Risk
  • Awareness of Products & Markets
  • Increase in Income
  • Shielding Against Wrong Practice
  • Ease of Processes

The Minister said that e-SANTA is a Digital Bridge to end the market divide and will act as an alternative marketing tool between farmers & buyers by eliminating middlemen. It will revolutionize traditional aqua farming by providing cashless, contactless and paperless electronic trade platform between farmers and exporters. “e-SANTA can become a tool to advertise collectively the kind of products the buyers, fishermen & fish producing organisations are harvesting, so people in India & internationally can know what is available & in the future, it can become an auction platform”, he added. The Platform is available in many languages, which will help the local population.

Dwelling upon the challenges in traditional aqua farming, Shri Goyal said that farmers were facing monopoly and exploitation, exporters were facing inconsistency and quality gaps in the products purchased, and traceability is a big issue in international trade. He said that e-SANTA website (https://esanta.gov.in) will change the life standards of our fishermen, bring in substantive improvements in their lives, and also enhance India’s reputation in the global trade. The portal will act as a bridge between the fishermen and buyers, within the country and abroad.

Describing it as another feather in the cap of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, the Minister said that it will help India become self-reliant. He said that our Government is committed towards the welfare of farmers. He said that the initiative of NaCSA has the potential to change the Naksha (Map) of marketing of aqua products in India.

e-SANTA is a completely paperless and end-to-end electronic trade platform between Farmers and exporters. The farmers have the freedom to list their produce and quote their price while the exporters have the freedom to list their requirements and also to choose the products based on their requirements such as desired size, location, harvest dates etc. This enables the farmers and buyers to have greater control over the trade and enables them to make informed decisions. The platform provides detailed specification of each product listing and it is backed by an end to end electronic payment system with NaCSA as an Escrow agent. After crop listing and online negotiation, a deal is struck, advance payment is made and an estimated invoice is generated. Once the harvest date is fixed, the buyer goes to the farm gate and the produce is harvested in his presence. Once the harvest is completed, the final count, quantity of material is verified, the final amount is decided and delivery challan is issued. Once the material reaches the processing plant, the final invoice is generated and the exporter makes the balance payment. This payment is reflected in the escrow account. NaCSA verifies it and accordingly releases the payment to farmers.
