WTO Protects Developing Countries' Food Security Programs from Challenges Under Agreement on Agriculture.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has decided to indefinitely protect the public stock-holding programs of developing countries, such as India, from being challenged under certain obligations of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture. This decision, originating from the 2014 General Council and reaffirmed at the 2015 Nairobi Ministerial Conference, ensures that India's food security initiatives remain compliant with WTO rules until a permanent solution is established. India, part of the G-33 coalition, continues to advocate for a favorable resolution on public stock-holding for food security purposes. This was confirmed by a government official in a recent parliamentary session.
