Competition Appellate Tribuanl
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Shri R.P.N. Singh today informed the Rajya Sabha since its inception on 20th May, 2009, the Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) has received 36 appeals against decisions of the Competition Commission of India. CAT functions out of New Delhi and has no benches outside.
CAT has disposed of 24 appeals till the end of July, 2011. In addition, CAT disposed of 1426 cases out of 1825 cases of the erstwhile Monopolies Restrictive Trade Practices Commission, which were transferred to the CAT. Out of these 1426 disposed cases, 114 cases have been restored on review applications.
The Minister was replying to a written question regarding number of appeals received at the Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) during the last three years, State-wise.

Competition appeals: appellate forum received challenges and disposed both fresh appeals and transferred legacy cases, some restored on review. The Competition Appellate Tribunal, operating solely from New Delhi since 20 May 2009, received 36 appeals against the Competition Commission of India and disposed 24 of those appeals through end July 2011. The Tribunal also disposed 1,426 of 1,825 cases transferred from the erstwhile Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Commission, with 114 of those disposed cases restored on review applications.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
