RBI Guidelines: No Minimum Balance for Jan Dhan Accounts; KYC Status Affects Deposit Limits and Benefits.
Under the Reserve Bank of India's guidelines, Jan Dhan accounts, part of the Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) scheme, do not require a minimum balance. As of July 25, 2018, these accounts hold deposits totaling Rs. 80,093.77 crore. While there are no deposit restrictions for accounts with full KYC, simplified KYC accounts face limits on credits, withdrawals, and balances. Government notifications exempt these limits for deposits from government grants and welfare benefits. Benefits such as RuPay Debit cards, insurance, and overdraft facilities are available to account holders, with 32.17 crore accounts opened under the scheme.
