The summary of the Index of Eight Core Industries (base: 2011-12) is given at the Annexure.
The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stands at 129.8 in June, 2018, which was 6.7per centhigheras compared to the index of June, 2017. Its cumulative growth during April to June, 2018-19was 5.2per cent.
Coal
Coal production (weight: 10.33per cent)increased by 11.5 per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 13.2 per centduring April to June, 2018-19over corresponding period of the previous year.
Crude Oil
Crude Oil production (weight: 8.98per cent) declinedby 3.4 per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index declined by 2.4 per centduring April to June, 2018-19over the corresponding period of previous year.
Natural Gas
The Natural Gas production (weight: 6.88per cent) declined by 2.7per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 0.4 per centduring April to June, 2018-19 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Refinery Products
Petroleum Refinery production (weight: 28.04per cent) increased by 12.0 per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 6.6 per centduring April to June, 2018-19over the corresponding period of previous year.
Fertilizers
Fertilizers production (weight: 2.63 per cent) increased by 1.0 per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 4.5 per centduring April to June, 2018-19 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Steel
Steel production (weight: 17.92per cent)increasedby 4.4 per cent in June, 2018 over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 2.9per centduring April to June, 2018-19 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Cement
Cement production (weight: 5.37per cent) increasedby 13.2per cent in June, 2018over June, 2017. Its cumulative index increased by 14.2per centduring April to June, 2018-19over the corresponding period of previous year.
Electricity
Electricity generation (weight: 19.85per cent) increased by4.0per centin June, 2018over June, 2017. Its cumulative indexincreased by3.4per cent duringApril to June, 2018-19over the corresponding period of previous year.
Note 1: Data for April, 2018, May, 2018 and June, 2018are provisional.
Note 2: Since April, 2014, Electricity generation data from Renewable sources are also included.
Note 3: The industry-wise weights indicated above are individual industry weight derived from IIP and blown up on pro rata basis to a combined weight of ICI equal to 100.
Note 4: Release of the index for July, 2018 will be on Friday, 31stAugust, 2018.
