Cabinet Approves Extension of J&K's Udaan Initiative to Boost Youth Employment and Skill Development Until End of 2018.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by the Prime Minister, approved extending the 'Special Industry Initiative for J&K' (Udaan) until December 31, 2018. This scheme aims to integrate J&K youth with India's corporate sector by providing skill enhancement and job opportunities. Since its inception, 109 companies have partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation, selecting 34,587 candidates, with 31,903 joining, 22,237 completing training, and 14,694 offered jobs. Despite unrest, the scheme showed significant progress in FY 2016-17, with over 12,000 candidates joining training and nearly 10,000 receiving job offers through 140 selection drives across J&K.
